CAMC Breast Center

The CAMC Foundation, in partnership with the CAMC Breast Center, West Virginia American Water, and Terri’s Tribute, hosted an awareness event at the CAMC Cancer Center recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As part of the event, and throughout the month of October, visitors to the CAMC Cancer Center can see what was once the World’s Longest Pink Scarf, a pink scarf on loan from the family of the late Terri Lynne Massey. The scarf, which once was over two miles in length, includes pieces that have been hand-knitted from all 50 US states, Canada, and the Caribbean Islands. In recent years, pieces of the scarf have been made into lap blankets for cancer patients, including 28 blankets which have been donated to the CAMC Breast Center. Also, remarks were offered by Missy Bohan, Nurse Manager of the CAMC Breast Center, and Diane Holley-Brown, a breast cancer survivor. Both Bohan and Holley-Brown expressed the need for routine mammograms and shared their personal journeys as breast cancer survivors.
Additionally, the event featured information from Anthony Treadway, Construction Manager with West Virginia American Water Company and brother of Massey. Treadway highlighted the company’s impact on patients receiving treatment for Breast Cancer. Throughout the month of October, West Virginia American Water is raising monies to contribute to an endowment fund they established in 2023 with CAMC Foundation. This fund supports patients receiving cancer treatment at CAMC by providing gas cards to patients who may have a barrier to getting to their appointments due to the cost of transportation. Since 2022, employees and vendors of West Virginia American Water have donated $28,000 to the CAMC Foundation to support this initiative.
